Sayelle vs Duolingo
Duolingo is the biggest name in language learning for good reason — 40+ languages, a huge community, and a genuinely effective gamified-drills approach that's free to use. It also now offers AI conversation practice through Duolingo Max, its higher-priced tier. Sayelle takes a narrower, different approach: fewer languages, but conversation with an AI tutor is the entire product, and it runs on your phone instead of a server.

Where Duolingo AI conversation and Sayelle differ most
Duolingo Max's Roleplay and Video Call features are a real, useful addition — scripted scenarios with structured feedback, and an open-ended chat with an AI character. They're also gated behind Duolingo's highest subscription tier, separate from Duolingo Super, and only cover a subset of the languages Duolingo otherwise teaches. Sayelle's AI conversation is available on its free tier (heart-limited, no subscription required to try it) and covers every language it supports, not a subset.
Where Duolingo is the better fit
If you want to learn one of the 30+ languages Sayelle doesn't support, want a large existing community and leaderboard-driven motivation, or mainly want gamified vocabulary/grammar drills rather than open conversation practice, Duolingo's free tier is a strong, well-established option. Sayelle is a better fit specifically if conversation practice — speaking or typing your way through a real exchange — is what you're actually looking for, and if working offline matters to you.
