How to use Sayelle

A quick reference for what everything in the app actually does. For the pre-download pitch, see the homepage's first-session walkthrough instead — this page is for once you're already using it.

Getting started

On first launch, Sayelle downloads the models it needs to run on-device — about 4 GB total, over Wi-Fi. No sign-in is required: a fully anonymous account is created automatically so your progress can be saved. Once the download finishes, pick a lesson or scenario from the roadmap to start your first conversation.

Lessons, Scenarios, and Study

Lessons teach grammar through a story, one conversation at a time, on a roadmap you move along at your own pace. Scenarios drop you into a specific real-world situation — ordering food, checking into a hotel, haggling at a market — with no script to follow. Studyturns what you've already practiced into flashcards, vocabulary, listening, speaking, and sentence-building exercises, so a chat you had becomes material you can revisit.

Speaking or typing

Every conversation has a text field and a microphone button — use whichever you prefer, or switch between them mid-conversation. Speech recognition and the tutor's spoken replies both run on-device.

Hearts and the free tier

Free accounts get 5 hearts. Starting a new lesson, scenario, or study attempt spends one; resuming something already in progress doesn't. Hearts recharge automatically over time. Sayelle Plus removes the limit entirely — see below.

Streaks

Practicing on consecutive days builds a streak, shown in the app. It's a motivation tool, not a requirement — missing a day doesn't lock you out of anything.

Sayelle Plus

Plus removes the hearts limit entirely, unlocks every Plus-tier lesson and scenario, and turns off ads. It's optional — the free tier is a real, usable product on its own, not a limited demo. Pricing is shown in the app before you subscribe, and can be managed or cancelled at any time; see Billing & Refunds.

Custom lessons and scenarios

Beyond the built-in roadmap, you can create your own custom lessons and scenarios around situations specific to you. This is a Plus feature; the free-tier allowance is remotely configurable and may change, so check what's currently available in the app itself rather than relying on a fixed number here.

Search

If you know roughly what you want to practice, search across every lesson and scenario instead of scrolling the full roadmap.

Your account and Cloud Sync

Sign in with Apple (optional, in Profile) lets you recover your progress on another device. Cloud Sync — also in Profile → Account Settings — controls whether your progress, chat history, and resumable sessions save to Sayelle's backend or stay only on your device. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what syncs and when.

Getting help

Report an issue or send feedback right from the app (Profile, or the report control inside any chat), or visit Support. Common questions are answered on the FAQ.
